Hello from NJ 1976 SS175

Hello everyone,

I just came across this site and it looks like the right place for me to get advice and parts sources. I have a 1976 SS175 that belonged to my boss. I got it from him about 5 years ago. He got it off a family member in 1978. It has sat for about 30 years inside a basement since. The bike only has 1000 miles on it and even the original tires are perfect. Unforntunatly, sitting idle for all this time has taken its toll. The inside of the tank was rusted beyond repair but I was able to score another used one on ebay. Also the chrome is in need of a redo. I bought a carb rebuild kit but haven't done much since.

Since there is not a large following of these bikes (maybe there is but I am unaware of it at this time) and most Harley suppliers have nothing for these I am hoping you all can help. Here is a pic.

Welcome. It looks as though you won't need much to get your girl up and running. Good luck with the chrome. I actually had my rims bead blasted and then powder coated grey, although I have seen other colors used, as well. The carb should be an easy fix. Just remember to remove ALL of the oxidation that you will find in the air passages. Nice photo. Take care.

JTFormula, Looks like a nice bike you have got there. You will be surprised at the many parts that are still available for your bike. Look in this Forum for part suppliers or check eBay under Aermacchi Parts. Welcome from Michigan, tropical paradise.

Cool bike! Welcome, also from Michigan. I don't think parts will be a problem, as Tin Man said. Check my links page or any of the venders links thoughout this site. They're out there.

Good luck, and keep us posted. Again, Welcome

Ken

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am not totally knowledgeable of these bikes but I thought it was a cool different ride. It deserved a new lease on life so I adopted it. I appreciate the future help and I'll keep everyone posted as the progress goes on.

Oh, and for rims, I found a guy relatively local to me with brand new NOS spokes for this bike. $150 a piece.

I contacted the guy with the wheels to see if he still had them. They are available but he wants $200 for each. I guess thats still not bad since they are NOS.

Anyone have the rubber nut to hold the side covers on???

Whoa, check out http://www.buchananspokes.net/products/s...vidson.asp
Looks like stock spokes and nipples should run about $100 per wheel brand ass new. Just 'cause something is NOS doesn't mean its worth it.

Yes but those are $100 for spokes. I need the whole wheel. The rims are pitted from sitting. If I can get the wheels for $300 for the set, I think thats not a bad deal for new parts.

Ah, didn't realize the rims were part of the deal.

I had to mount stainless washers with JB Weld on both sides to rebuild the valvestem hole and clean them up with a wire wheel, then I painted them bright metalic Platnum and then clear coated them to hold me over till I can get new ones.
